Give-Away Day!
This is Ginger the rag-gingerbread girl. She's been freshly baked out of gingerbread brown wool and she's stuffed with rags and organic cotton batting. She has little button eyes, an embroidered mouth and blushy cheeks. Her pretty bow is made from an old pillowcase and her buttons are all vintage. Ginger has white ric-rac icing on her arms and legs and she smells faintly of gingerbread.
To celebrate the spirit of Christmas and Give-Away Day, I'm giving Ginger the rag-gingerbread girl to one lucky person who leaves a comment about their Christmas plans on this entry between today and the 6th of December (that's when we celebrate our Independence Day here in Finland). I'll assign every commenter a number so that the first to leave a comment is number 1 and the next person is number 2 and so on, and then on the 6th I'll randomly draw a number to see who Ginger goes home to (I'm happy to ship internationally, so it doesn't matter where you're from). :)
Be sure to check out all the other crafters who are taking part in Give-Away Day too! There's a long, long list of all the participants over at the Sew, Mama, Sew blog.
My Christmas plans are pretty much the same as they are every year. I hung my Christmas lights up on Monday and today I baked gingerbread cookies. We're getting a real Christmas tree this year and I'm super excited about that! My old, small plastic tree is a bit pathetic and of course, it doesn't give a lovely Christmassy scent like a real tree does. I can even get a real star for the top now!
We'll be going over to my parents' for Christmas Eve to have dinner. We'll be getting our own Christmas ham too from J's parents and I'm going to bake some Christmas tarts later on as well.
I've been listening to Christmas songs all week and I'm in a jolly holiday mood despite the drab and wet weather and total lack of snow here. :)
Added on 6th of December '08: Commenting is now closed and a winner has been picked. Thank you ever so much for making this such a wonderful event everyone! :)

Plans for christmas? I hope to be able to go get some decorations this year. Last year I couldn't find any I liked (basically no orange decorations I know being the first one commenting doesn't give me much chance to *win* the girl, but I had to give it a try, right? :D

Oh, Ginger is so adorable! Great job!
My plans are pretty crazy for Christmas. We live in Germany, and we'll be here until Christmas Eve. Then we'll hop a feaaaaaaally long flight back to the States so that we can spend Christmas and a few weeks with our families. We get German Christmas markets AND get to share the kiddo with the Grandparents, it's the best of both worlds!
Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

aY!! Probably with Number 1 I won't have much luck!! But I have always loved your plushies and would love to send this to my niece.
My plans, since here in Argentina is summer, and really warm, start quite late with the whole family. We have dinner around 9 or 10 pm and wait til 12 when Santa comes with the gifts xD That we give around. Food is usually more light that what I have experienced in my Christmas in Norway, but no strange it's probably gonna be over 35ºC
Hugs sweets!!

I am participating in a cookie swap this year with friends, I have to bake 9 dozen cookies. :) I have a very small family so Christmas will be spent with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend and my boyfriend.

OMG Eerika = she is too cute for words! :O congratulations!
My plans for Christmas are similar to last year: my church job means I have to sing in London for Midnight Mass and Christmas Day services, but my parents live in the Midlands. And I have a boyfriend who lives in London, who also wants to see his family, who also live in London (I'm making this sund too complex, but hey...!) So we worked it out that I'll spend Christmas Eve with Ivan, go for dinner that evening with his family, travel to church in the centre of town to sing Midnight Mass on my own (it's near Buckingham Palace fyi), and at 1am-or-so when it finishes Ivan is gonna walk up to collect me and we'll walk over the Thames all lit up together to his house. Then we'll both walk back for the Christmas Day service (no public transport on CD and neither of us have a car), where we'll meet up with my parents, who are driving up. After the service I'll go back with them, and Ivan will go to his family. Yummy Midlands Christmas for a few days, then I'll train it back for the New Year in London! WOW that took a long time to type! :O but I'm so looking forward to it. And I have my pressies all wrapped under my tree already...! o.O xx

Ginger's lovely!
My Christmas plans are always fun... Me and my husband open our advent calendar in the morning. (I normally put old coins in his and we have a chocolate one on the side). Then we exchange gifts, have a big breakfast, and go back to bed because I'm normally exhausted - heh. Then we have a big dinner, light a fire in the fireplace, and watch Christmas movies with hot chocolate. :0)

...what a great pleasure to partecipate in your giveaway, I'm simply in love with this adorable Ginger the rag-gingerbread girl! :o)
So, my plains for this next Christmas will be the same of all the past years, all the family together in my parent's house...maybe this year will be a little different to the others, because my dad has got some bad health problems, but I'm sure that the warmth and the love we've got all for him will minimize his pain..Christmas is above all this, don't you think so?
A big hug to you all from Italy,

Well, On Christmas eve we are having a meal with and for the street people we work with, they have nowhere else to celebrate. Then we are having a meal with some friends. Then on christmas day, we are bravely hosting christmas in our little house... without running water, indoor toilet or drainage..... hmmmm.... i think its actually more crazy than brave.
she really is a beautiful gingerbread doll.
Posted by: PJS | December 03, 2008 at 02:49 PM
How cute!
This years Christmas plan is the same as every year, spending the whole day with my children and husband and our family enjoying each others company.
Posted by: Lisa | December 03, 2008 at 02:52 PM
i hope i don't sound totally pathetic right now, but as per usual, i'll probably be spending my christmas days by myself. they are usually spend watching 'christmas classics' and any other fun christmas themed programme on tv.
and i'll probably bake cranberry orange loaves again this year and eat them with peppermint tea! :) i love the special holidays foodassortment so i'll be checking them out at the supermarket. that's about it.
and yes! i love this ragdoll especially! nothing so cute as gingerbreadmen(girls).
Posted by: Claudia | December 03, 2008 at 02:54 PM
Ugh I love your little gingerdoll! And your cookies look so tasty too!
Well I live in Australia so my dream plans of frolicking in the snow and making snowangels aren't about to be realised :P Instead I will be decorating my fake tree lol but at least it will look nice with all the Finnish decorations my relatives have sent in the past, then possibly closer to Christmas bake karjalan piirakka which is soooo delicious but I'm on a new diet for my health so sadly I will not be able to eat it, but they are fun to make :D Hmmm and then on Christmas Eve we usually play games until midnight and then go to sleep.
Posted by: Niina | December 03, 2008 at 03:00 PM
That's adorable!! I really hope I win! Well we are leaving for Mexico on Saturday so that is kinda our Christmas this year. Other than that we will sit around the fire and play games. valerieann118atmsndotcom

Awww! So Cute!
My plans for Christmas holiday are to sit back and relax. I'm most likely going to stay at home and work on some dolls that I've been meaning to finish, and make some new ones. :D School has kept me really busy, but not busy enough to kep me from hoarding fabric. >> Yeah.

We'll be cutting down our tree!
Thanks for the chance to win.

Ginger kills me with cuteness !
Like last year, we're going to celebrate Christmas with our favorite little girl, our "niece" Baby Margaux. She's our closest friends' daughter and she was born on Christmas. So on the 24th, we now celebrate her birthday and throw a little party for her, then, we have a Christmas party with her parents.
Last year, I baked her a Hello Kitty! cake. This year, I plan to make a Three Bear cake. I'm going to buy these bear silicone cake form, bake three sponge cakes, gave them different fillings and decorate them differently.
Then, I've bought Margaux her first rocking toy (a big plush dog) and I'm sure we'll have some fun seeing her experimenting with her new buddy.
Christmas Eve should be a mix of traditional food and great wines. I don't care for holiday food, but I can't say to a great wine ;-)
Margaux's parents usually have a Christmas tree and decorate it differently every year. Last year, it was Nightmare Before Christmas lights and ornaments... I don't know which Disney or Star War character will be honored this year.
Christmas day will be a lot less fun since we'll have to go to my mother in law's. She's already thought of the menu she'd like, which is mashed potatoes and ham (not the festive kind, but the kind you find in sandwiches), if you can believe it. She makes a point of turning Christmas into a drab, sad, unfestive event. We'll once again have lunch in her kitchen, which I find pretty awful, drink from those thick cheap glasses she favors and she'll probably use a beach towel as a tablecloth. Yes, that's revolting... But I suppose that if the give-away is about the most original Christmas, I win hands down !

How adorable! My 4 year old loves gingerbread men/women!
Christmas for us is all about family-reading the real Christmas story from the Bible to our 3 girls, opening gifts, having a big meal and just spending time together.
Merry Christmas!

Oh she is gorgeous! My heart just melted to see her lying on the baking tray (and my stomach growled - I'll be craving gingerbread all day now). Thanks for this wonderful giveaway :)

i love your rag pets, i can't resist taking part.
i'm a bit behind on christmas which is a bit distressing! today i'm designing a snowflake to print on my wrapping paper, & i really need to get started on the cards soon. most of the presents have been ordered, can't wait to wrap them! my flat-mate & i are going to put up our decorations next week, i think we should make some too, our little tree is a terrible little thing left over from the previous tenants, but we love it anyway. i'm sad to be working on christmas eve, but it means that i can spend boxing day with my family, relaxing after christmas day spent with my two great aunts. i've not asked for much this year, but managed to get my dad to navigate etsy so i might have some handmade joy under the tree! the ground is covered in snow already, usually it doesn't appear until the new year, hopefully it might time itself better this year & land on the big day.

The little gingerbread doll is so cute!!
My plans for christmas are to relax at my parents house and eat loads of good food, simple but true.

That is the cutest thing. I love it! This year we're not doing presents. I have made a bunch of scarves and coasters though...
Posted by: Lauren | December 03, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Oh my goodness, so many comments already?! I was hoping I'd be lucky number 1!
My plans for Christmas are to help my mother with the traditional English dinner and just relax because come Christmas day we'll have the whole family over! I really like just basking in the atmosphere of Christmas - tinsel, Christmas trees, and of course carols.
Little Ginge is too cute! Fingers crossed!

We always travel north to the relatives house and then jump around from house to house making sure to visit everyone. We also watch the 24hours of A Christmas Story. Yeah!! and lots of other favorites like Elf and Christmas Vacation. I am a big fan, I make small gingerbread babies and little house it would be nice to have one of yours too:P

My plans start on December 1st. We begin decorating and sending out holiday cards. Every weekend my daughters come over and we spend the day baking cookies. On Christmas Day my entire family (20 people) arrive and we exchange gifts and share dinner together. As the kids get older the family is growing and I love it!

Ginger is so Adorable, I want to cuddle already!
This year will be my son's first christmas and we are so excited to be able to spend it with my parents and share our special one with them.

Ginger is gorgeous! (& the photos are too cute!)
my Christmas plans are a bit pathetic. my Mum spends Christmas Day with her Irish bf & his family, so i'll be spending Christmas alone & i don't really do anything special food or celebrations wise. Christmas Day last year was really lonely without Aly to hang out with.
hopefully sometime around Christmas i'll see my best friend (who lives in London) he comes home to visit his parents at Christmas & usually visits me while he's over, we exchange gifts & hang out, so that's always lovely & something to look forward to.

I shall be working at a different Starbucks. Because it's time and a half and tips are supposed to be excellent, and I'm like to pay one of my bills off before January.
Family wise, I think Jen and I will be going to my mom's house Christmas Eve and her mom's house on Christmas day, in the evening. I think our own private giftgiving might happen Christmas eve then, didn't think about that.
Oh, and before then, in the next week or so, I'll be baking 10 different kinds of cookies to give to friends, neighbors and family :)

That gingerbread doll is so cute. My Christmas plans include a trip to the (hopefully) snowy side of the state where there will be lots of frolicking, baking, eating, and general merry making.

I can't see the pictures but she sounds just gorgeous!
This year my husband and I are far away from family so we've taken two weeks off to go visit both families over Christmas and New Years'. We'll be gone for FIFTEEN days. I don't know if I'm more nervous about being gone for that long or about having to rely on someone else's generosity for transportation once we're in our destinations. Either way, it should be a great holiday.

I have a 7 month old so this will be Christmas #1 with kids. How exciting! Actually, I'm kind of scared too. Shhh, dont tell. As for plans, decorations went up yesterday. The baby is going to be crawling any minute so we'll see how long my house stays decorated. The rest of the holiday will be spent loving on her! I love your doll!

Ginger is such a little cutie!
I have big plans for Christmas- heading home to Canada!! My oldest brother and his family will be flying in from from Hong Kong, and I'll be flying in from Belgium to join my parents and other brother in Vancouver. My brothers now I'm coming, but my parents don't... yup I'm sneeky! I can't wait- bring on the eggnog, and christmas carols!

She's adorable. We're getting our tree this weekend. We've already started decorating the house. My 11 yr old likes being in charge of that. We have an Advent calendar my sister's mil made for us and the girls love it. We'll be having Christmas dinner at our house with all our family. We've done that since we've moved into this house. It gives everyone one place to get together-all family including inlaws.

Wow, I'm so glad I found your blog. Great site! And I love the gingerbread girl - she was showing her personality as soon as I opened the page.
We've decided to entertain more than usual this year. Not as much money for gifts, so we're giving the gift of fellowship and food! And maybe a little drink or two~
