Summer, been and gone

Oh my, it's been a summer and a half! I've been meaning to post about all the things that've happened and that I've done this summer, but I just haven't gotten to it before now. So, here's a recap of this past summer. :)

First off, the biggest news of the summer: I became an aunt! My nephew was born at the end of June, and he officially got a name at today. He also got a baby-friendly rag-bear I made especially for him.

The Bare Bear has safety eyes, a very securely sewn tail and no belly button so little hands can't pick him apart and accidentally eat bits of him. :)

In July, this little blog of mine turned 5! It's a bit unreal to think I've been keeping this blog for over 5 years now, and that you lot have been following my life and the rag-pets for all that time too.

July also saw us visit Tallinn for a lovely, relaxing weekend. There I and J. celebrated 10 years together with really yummy food, a soak in the hotel's hot tub and a stroll through the Old Town.

I finally shucked my "winter coat" (went swimming in the sea) in July too. I didn't go swimming even once last summer, but this July the weather got warm enough for me to brave the sea for a dip.

Speaking of the sea, JDS Kashima, a Japanese naval training ship, visited Helsinki at the end of July, and we had the honour of serving tea to it's crew, cadets, officers and even a few local and Japanese dignitaries on board. I acted as our tea association's photographer there, and the whole thing was an amazing, extraordinary experience! As we had pretty free rein to putter about the ship, we got to see a lot more of it than civilian visitors would normally get to see.

This month, I celebrated my 36th birthday... although if I'm honest, I feel more like I turned 6, rather than 36! :) I and my friend Jenny (we're born on the same day) celebrated our combined birthdays by putting on our birthday best kimonos and had a bit of fun out and about with our friend Jenni, followed by a chaji (long tea gathering) at a friend's super photogenic flat.

Now that summer is going away and autumn is on it's way -even if the days still feel a little bit like summer-, I hope fall will be as good and full as this summer has been. :)

You did have a good summer! Nice to have the blog to remember it all one day too.

It's so nice to read from you again, I was wondering what happened :) And wow, it sure happened a lot!

Wishing you a lovely autumn (wouldn't it be great if I could visit again?) and do post more. We miss you!

Looks like you had wonderful summer! I was in Finland too but unfortunately I was quite ill towards the end and I didn't get to go to Tallinn or Moomin Land or Suomenlinna :( Next time!! Your photos of Tallinn are so lovely, I really regret not being able to go.
